Counselling in nature has many advantages. Many clients find it easier to connect with their senses, emotions, and thoughts in nature. Research shows that just being in nature helps our nervous system. Talk to us to see if Nature-Based Therapy would be a good option for you.
Men’s Mental Health
Men’s issues are often not discussed, leaving men with nowhere to turn. We offer a non-judgemental and supportive environment to discuss various issues and topics. Please let us know if you have a gender preference for your counsellor.
Grief and Loss
The pain and despair that comes with grief and loss can make moving forward seem impossible. We have empathetic counsellors who specialize in grief and loss counselling. We understand it takes courage to reach out, and that’s a big first step.
Self-esteem and self-compassion work helps clients build a deeper connection and relationship with themselves. Our counsellors understand the importance of self-compassion and self-love. We use a variety of strategies to help clients recognize their self-worth, strengths, abilities, and accomplishments. Often, as we begin to feel better about ourselves, other areas of our lives also start to improve.
Miscarriage, Stillbirth, Infant Loss
These life events can leave us feeling discouraged and in emotional pain. It can be a traumatic experience. People who have experienced this type of grief are at greater risk of anxiety, guilt, anger, and depression. It can affect relationships and self-esteem. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed; some feelings may even be delayed several years. If you have experienced loss, please know we are here to talk.
Anxiety, Stress, and Coping
Anxiety can lower a person’s quality of life and impact many different areas of life. We offer a variety of strategies to help people cope and become more resilient. When clients are ready, we also help bring awareness to the underlying factors that contribute to anxiety.
Depression can impact many people and their loved ones. We understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help. While remaining person-centred, we can work together to improve mood so clients can begin to feel better. Momentous counsellors can effectively hold space and support clients.
There are multiple types of trauma. Some are singular events (for instance, a natural disaster or a sudden loss), whereas others are a multitude of events (like childhood trauma, ongoing relational trauma, oppression, or systemic racism, among others). With any trauma, we now know that talk therapy can only get us so far. Traumatic memories are stored in a different part of our brain. With a trauma-informed lens, we will utilize tools to help heal these memories so you can continue to live your new you.
Couples Counselling is usually a shorter term (10-15 sessions). We want to equip couples with tools and resources to find their footing. We help couples understand their conflict patterns and improve communication. However, depending on the circumstances, we may request that couples seek individual therapy and work on their selves before returning to the session. We utilize various strategies, from the Gottman trainings to Family and cultural systems.
Developing and maintaining healthy boundaries can be complex. We can help you work on boundaries, whether with your spouse, employer, children, neighbour, or roommate. Learning to be clear and consistent and saying no can help improve relationships and client confidence.
Momentous counsellors understand how our emotions impact how we behave. By increasing emotional awareness, how we experience emotions within our body, and our relationship with different emotions, clients can begin to regulate more effectively. We also incorporate coping strategies, various exercises and interventions into sessions.
Momentous counsellors help clients set and prioritize their goals so they can make their dreams come true. We can help bring awareness to how clients can utilize their skill sets and what support they need. We then identify how to break goals down into smaller sub-goals.

EMDR therapy is a research-proven method to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences. (Offered spring 2024)
We have counsellors who have sandtray certification. Sandtray therapy offers a safe environment to express memories and experiences that would otherwise be too difficult to process or talk about.
Child & Youth Therapy
Momentous counsellors have experience working with children. We will utilize various sensory-based techniques and play to assist in communication, trauma, divorce, understanding, and much more. Please get in touch with us to find out more.
We understand that cultural factors must be considered for counselling to be effective. At Momentous, we have counsellors with different cultural backgrounds. We also know that clients are the experts of their situation and remain client-centred to cater to the client’s needs.
We understand that animals offer support and have therapeutic benefits. We offer pet-friendly rooms if clients would like to bring their loved ones.
First Nations Health Authority
We accept clients who can receive funding from the First Nations Health Authority. Indigenous therapy involves the understanding that healing must also consider intergenerational trauma, systemic racism and other Eurocentric layers that are sometimes ignored. Cultural competency means that we will always learn and grow – our clients are in the driver’s seat of their healing and are encouraged to incorporate holistic strategies and traditional healing. We are always open to integrating Elders and Healers.
First Responders Counselling
Momentous has trained counsellors with specific training and experience working with first responders. We are grateful that more people are willing to reach out for help and that stigma is reducing.
Online counselling is a convenient option for people with busy schedules, travel frequently, live remotely, and for many other reasons. Please speak with us to find out if this would be a good option.
