Men’s Mental Health
Men’s issues are often not discussed, leaving men with nowhere to turn. We offer a non-judgemental and supportive environment to discuss various issues and topics. Please let us know if you have a gender preference for your counsellor.
Grief and Loss
The pain and despair that comes with grief and loss can make moving forward seem impossible. We have empathetic counsellors who specialize in grief and loss counselling. We understand it takes courage to reach out, and that’s a big first step.
Self-esteem/self-compassion
Self-esteem and self-compassion work helps clients build a deeper connection and relationship with themselves. Our counsellors understand the importance of self-compassion and self-love. We use a variety of strategies to help clients recognize their self-worth, strengths, abilities, and accomplishments. Often, as we begin to feel better about ourselves, other areas of our lives also start to improve.
Miscarriage, Stillbirth, Infant Loss
These life events can leave us feeling discouraged and in emotional pain. It can be a traumatic experience. People who have experienced this type of grief are at greater risk of anxiety, guilt, anger, and depression. It can affect relationships and self-esteem. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed; some feelings may even be delayed several years. If you have experienced loss, please know we are here to talk.
Anxiety, Stress, and Coping
Anxiety can lower a person’s quality of life and impact many different areas of life. We offer a variety of strategies to help people cope and become more resilient. When clients are ready, we also help bring awareness to the underlying factors that contribute to anxiety.
Depression
Depression can impact many people and their loved ones. We understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help. While remaining person-centred, we can work together to improve mood so clients can begin to feel better. Momentous counsellors can effectively hold space and support clients.
Trauma
There are multiple types of trauma. Some are singular events (for instance, a natural disaster or a sudden loss), whereas others are a multitude of events (like childhood trauma, ongoing relational trauma, oppression, or systemic racism, among others). With any trauma, we now know that talk therapy can only get us so far. Traumatic memories are stored in a different part of our brain. With a trauma-informed lens, we will utilize tools to help heal these memories so you can continue to live your new you.
Couples Counselling
Couples Counselling is usually a shorter term (10-15 sessions). We want to equip couples with tools and resources to find their footing. We help couples understand their conflict patterns and improve communication. However, depending on the circumstances, we may request that couples seek individual therapy and work on their selves before returning to the session. We utilize various strategies, from the Gottman trainings to Family and cultural systems.
Boundaries
Developing and maintaining healthy boundaries can be complex. We can help you work on boundaries, whether with your spouse, employer, children, neighbour, or roommate. Learning to be clear and consistent and saying no can help improve relationships and client confidence.
Anger Management
Momentous counsellors understand how our emotions impact how we behave. By increasing emotional awareness, how we experience emotions within our body, and our relationship with different emotions, clients can begin to regulate more effectively. We also incorporate coping strategies, various exercises and interventions into sessions.
Life Coaching
Momentous counsellors help clients set and prioritize their goals so they can make their dreams come true. We can help bring awareness to how clients can utilize their skill sets and what support they need. We then identify how to break goals down into smaller sub-goals.

Momentous Counselling FAQ’s
How Do I Know if I Need Counselling?
Many people seek counselling when they begin feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, anxious, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that are difficult to manage alone. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Counselling can support people through stress, anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, burnout, grief, parenting struggles, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm.
Some common signs that counselling may help include:
- Constant worry or anxiety
- Feeling emotionally drained or numb
- Difficulty coping with stress
- Relationship conflict or communication challenges
- Trouble sleeping or relaxing
- Feeling stuck in unhealthy patterns
- Increased irritability or emotional reactions
- Low self-esteem or self-criticism
- Difficulty processing past experiences or trauma
- Feeling disconnected from yourself or others
Counselling provides a safe, supportive space to better understand your emotions, develop coping strategies, improve relationships, and reconnect with yourself in a healthier way. Many people in Kelowna seek counselling not because something is “wrong,” but because they want support, healing, and growth.
What Therapy Helps Anxiety?
Several evidence-based therapies can help with anxiety, depending on a person’s needs, experiences, and goals. Anxiety counselling often focuses on understanding the nervous system, reducing overwhelm, building coping skills, and addressing the underlying causes contributing to stress or worry.
Some of the most effective therapies for anxiety include:
EMDR Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps people process distressing experiences and reduce the emotional intensity connected to anxiety, trauma, and overwhelming memories.
IFS Therapy (Internal Family Systems)
IFS therapy helps people understand different “parts” of themselves, including anxious, perfectionistic, or protective parts. This approach supports emotional healing, self-compassion, and nervous system regulation.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to anxiety and stress.
Somatic and Trauma-Informed Therapy
These approaches focus on calming the nervous system, improving emotional regulation, and helping people feel safer and more grounded in their bodies.
Anxiety therapy can help individuals better manage stress, reduce panic or overwhelm, improve emotional resilience, and feel more connected and confident in daily life.
How to Help My Child with Anxiety in Kelowna
Supporting a child with anxiety begins with helping them feel safe, understood, and emotionally supported. Anxiety in children can sometimes appear as worry, avoidance, emotional outbursts, difficulty sleeping, perfectionism, physical complaints, or trouble separating from caregivers.
Ways parents can support a child with anxiety include:
- Validating emotions without reinforcing fear
- Creating predictable routines
- Teaching calming and grounding skills
- Encouraging emotional expression
- Reducing pressure and perfectionism
- Modeling healthy coping strategies
- Seeking professional support when needed
Child and youth counselling can help children better understand their emotions, build coping tools, improve emotional regulation, and develop confidence navigating stressful situations. In Kelowna, many families seek counselling support for anxiety, school stress, emotional regulation, social difficulties, and family transitions.
Play therapy, art-based interventions, and trauma-informed counselling approaches are often helpful for younger children who may struggle to express emotions verbally.
Can Counselling Help Couples Communicate?
Yes. Couples counselling can help partners improve communication, rebuild trust, navigate conflict, and strengthen emotional connection. Many couples struggle not because they do not care about one another, but because stress, misunderstandings, emotional triggers, or unmet needs create patterns of disconnection over time.
Couples therapy can help partners:
- Improve communication skills
- Learn healthier conflict resolution
- Understand emotional triggers
- Strengthen emotional intimacy
- Rebuild trust after hurt or betrayal
- Navigate parenting or life transitions
- Reduce resentment and defensiveness
- Improve emotional safety within the relationship
Therapy provides a supportive, non-judgmental space where both partners can feel heard and understood. Approaches such as Gottman Method couples therapy, attachment-based therapy, and emotionally focused therapy can help couples reconnect and build healthier relationship patterns.
