Services

Momentous Counselling offers a comprehensive approach to mental health challenges, providing a safe space for clients to explore emotions, develop coping strategies, and grow. From life transitions to past traumas, our services support individuals, couples, families, and athletes in achieving their full potential and well-being.

ADHD / ADD

Let’s help you be the best version of yourself. ADHD is often accompanied by other mood disorders and can lead to significant problems with self-esteem, identity, and relationships. Statistically, there is about double the amount of men than women with ADHD. With the use of CBT, ADHD coaching, and mindfulness, ADHD counsellors work to use this as their superpower. If you’ve recently been diagnosed, regardless of age, let’s find the best support for you.

Anger Management

Momentous counsellors understand how our emotions impact how we behave. By increasing emotional awareness, how we experience emotions within our body, and our relationship with different emotions, clients can begin to regulate more effectively. We also incorporate coping strategies, various exercises and interventions into sessions.

Anxiety, Stress, and Coping

Anxiety can lower a person’s quality of life and impact many different areas of life. We offer a variety of strategies to help people cope and become more resilient. When clients are ready, we also help bring awareness to the underlying factors that contribute to anxiety.

Boundaries

Developing and maintaining healthy boundaries can be complex. We can help you work on boundaries, whether with your spouse, employer, children, neighbour, or roommate. Learning to be clear and consistent and saying no can help improve relationships and client confidence. Sometimes, we use practical tools and strategies, while other times we dive into our family history to explore what boundaries meant for you as a child. Whatever way you want to look at it, boundaries are a necessary part of well-being.

Child & Youth Therapy

Momentous counsellors have experience working with children and youth. We will utilize various sensory-based techniques and play to assist in communication, trauma, divorce, understanding, and much more. We have a dedicated play therapy and sand tray room that utilizes sensory tools, objects, building blocks and play tools to help with trauma, conflict, and communication. Our child and youth therapists have specific training and extensive backgrounds working with children. Please get in touch with us to find out more.

Couples & Relationship Counselling

Couples Counselling is usually a shorter term (10-15 sessions). We want to equip couples with tools and resources to find their footing. We help couples understand their conflict patterns and improve communication. However, depending on the circumstances, we may request that couples seek individual therapy and work on their selves before returning to the session. We utilize various strategies, from the Gottman training to Family and cultural systems.

Depression

It is estimated that 1 in 6 people will experience depression in their lifetime. With the prevalence of depression, we must end the stigma and help those who need support. Depression can impact many people and their loved ones. We understand how difficult it can be to reach out for help. While remaining person-centred, we can work together to improve mood so clients can begin to feel better. Momentous counsellors can effectively hold space and support clients.

Family Therapy

Family therapy involves working with a family unit to help an individual or family resolve specific issues. Families sometimes need more support. Sometimes a sudden death, family conflict, or cultural considerations require more of a family-style approach. Family therapy can help in navigating the layers of power dynamics, negative behavioural patterns, separations, or struggles. Families can consist of siblings, cousins, ex-partners, blended families and anyone that is deemed necessary for the success of the clients.

At times, the therapist will suggest only meeting with a few family members, while other times the whole family will attend. The sessions are usually shorter and have a specific goal in mind. Connect with us to see if family therapy is the best option for you.

Miscarriage, Stillbirth, Infant Loss

It is estimated that 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage/infant loss. Bereavement can impact us for months and years. It can cause strains on relationships, self-esteem, fears and identity. Sometimes, there are fears of recurring miscarriages and fears, even during and post successful pregnancies.

These life events can leave us feeling discouraged and in emotional pain. It can be a traumatic experience both mentally and because of medical complications. People who have experienced this type of grief are at greater risk of anxiety, guilt, anger, and depression. It can affect relationships and self-esteem. It doesn’t matter how much time has passed; some feelings may even be delayed several years. If you have experienced loss, please know we are here to talk.

Men’s Mental Health

Men are human too! Society has taught many men not to show vulnerability and to suppress emotions that show weakness, such as sadness. We believe it shows courage and strength to work on yourself. However, men’s issues are often not discussed, leaving men with nowhere to turn. We offer a non-judgemental and supportive environment to discuss various issues and topics. Whether you are experiencing loneliness, anxiety, depression, relationships/intimacy issues, low self-esteem, difficulty managing anger, procrastination, or something else we are here to help. Please let us know if you have a gender preference for your counsellor.

Nature-Based Therapy

Counselling in nature has many advantages. Many clients find it easier to connect with their senses, emotions, and thoughts in nature. Research shows that just being in nature helps our nervous system. Bringing motion into our sessions (through walk-and-talk therapy) can additionally help calm nerves, especially for those who are new to therapy or who have had a negative experience in the past.

We require that clients attend a consultation before engaging in Nature-Based Therapy. Talk to us to see if Nature-Based Therapy would be a good option for you.

Sports Psychology

Do want to reach your full potential as an athlete? We help athletes achieve optimal performance and well-being. We help bring awareness to the role that thinking plays in athletic performance and help athletes get into “the zone.” We also help athletes understand the role outside stressors and distractions play in their performance. Whether your overcoming an injury, lacking self-confidence, struggling with communication with teammates or coaches, or something else, we are here to help. We also help retired athletes experiencing a loss of identity with life transitions while they find new life purposes.

Trauma & PTSD

There are multiple types of trauma. Some are singular events (for instance, a natural disaster or a sudden loss), whereas others are a multitude of events (like childhood trauma, ongoing relational trauma, oppression, or systemic racism, among others). With any trauma, we now know that talk therapy can only get us so far. Traumatic memories are stored in a different part of our brain. With a trauma-informed lens, we will utilize tools to help heal these memories so you can continue to live your new you.
